Behind the Object

The Object & Its Story

A small, shallow bowl thrown on a kick wheel and finished with a simple ash glaze. It is the kind of vessel used in Indian households for small offerings — a few flowers, a pinch of kumkum, a tea light. But it also works as an everyday object: a salt cellar, a ring dish, a condiment bowl. The form is wide and open with a gentle curve and a low foot ring. The ash glaze gives it a warm grey-green surface with the subtle variation that comes from wood firing. Each bowl is slightly different — wheel-thrown work always is. Made by Kamal Prasad.
