Behind the Object

The Object & Its Story

A medium urn thrown on a kick wheel from local clay, bisque-fired and finished with a wood-ash glaze that gives it a warm, mottled surface — grey-brown with occasional green tones where the copper oxide in the ash has reacted. The form is simple: a rounded body, a wide mouth, and a stable foot. It works well as a kitchen vessel for dry goods, a vase for branches or dried flowers, or a standalone object on a shelf. Each piece is slightly different due to the nature of wheel-throwing and ash glazing. Made by Kamal Prasad in Varanasi.
